I'm participating in some of the days in the Wives of Faith Christmas Blog Carnival. It's a lot of fun because they give us topics to write about and we get to read other people's blogs and connect and make friends, not to mention just enjoying Christmas. This post is going to be short and sweet...literally! :) Most people think of cranberry sauce as a standard traditional holiday dish, but it's rare to find a person who actually likes it. That's because most people go to the store and get thi... Continue reading ...

On July 4th, we woke up and I tried be domestic and made red, white, and blue pancakes. Topped with blueberries: Ezra wasn't quite sure what to make of them: Ezra and I both got dressed in patriotic clothes and I took a bunch of random photos: Then in the evening we went on-post for their festival. There wasn't much to do for little ones like Ezra but we found a few things! Like the swing ride: And the fishy ride: And of course some normal swings! We ended the day watching fireworks with some friend... Continue reading ...

On July 3rd, we went to a local church for their Independence Day Festival. They had a LOT going on, but here's just a few things we were able to do! Ezra got to sit in a firetruck for the first time:
We hung out on blankets in the grass and tried to stay cool:
Hung out with friends:
Took cover while the fireworks almost got rained out! After waiting an hour inside, the storm blew over and the show went on! (although by that time Ezra was half asleep...the colors mesmerized him and he was aslee... Continue reading ...

This is my third Mother's Day. My first (2009), I celebrated a life in the arms of Jesus, and mourned the loss of our first little one. My second (2010), I celebrated the life growing within me. I appreciated the honor bestowed upon me simply due to the fact that I had conceived two children...I was blessed to have carried life. This year is different. I look in the mirror. Where once I saw a slim figure...now I see leftover baby fat, a cesarean scar, and stretch marks. Instead of a made-up fa... Continue reading ...
A Different Kind of Christmas

Normally, in keeping with our little Christmas tradition, we would be headed up to Chicago to spend Christmas and New Years with my family. But this year, plans had to change, thanks to Uncle Sam. I can't really go into a lot of detail at this time, but let's just say that we were forced to celebrate Christmas Day as just the three of us. Knowing that we were faced with this, my mother-in-law and her husband decided to bring Christmas to us, a little bit early! While this isn't what I had ima... Continue reading ...

My New-Day's Resolution

Just in case you were wondering, no,
the title of this blog post is not a typo.
I thought it would be apropos to write a "first of the year" blog post. But, the truth is that when it comes to New Year's celebrations,
resolutions, and excitement, I'm kind of a “scrooge”...(If you
will allow me to steal a Christmas phrase and apply it to New Years.)
While I enjoyed staying up until
midnight and getting my first New-Year's kiss EVER, once I crawled in
bed dead tired I wondered why I had bo... Continue reading ...

What I Don't Take For Granted This Christmas

WIVES OF FAITH 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BLOG CARNIVAL DAY 12. 1. The first thing I don't take for granted this year is God's amazing love...I know it may sound a bit trite, but God is showing me every day how much He loves me and cares for me, even when I don't feel worthy. It's so easy to feel like God can't show us love because we aren't perfect and disappoint Him so much, but the older I get the more I realized that God delights in giving us good and perfect gifts! 2. The second thing I don't t... Continue reading ...

WIVES OF FAITH 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BLOG CARNIVAL DAY 10. I am once again going to take some writer's liberty with this blog post, partially because when the topics were first posted I misunderstood what this post was supposed to be about, wrote my post, and don't want to change it, and partially because this is a blog post that I have been looking forward to writing for a while. When I read the title of the post, the phrase "First Christmas" in my mind translated into "First Christmas with Ru... Continue reading ...

WIVES OF FAITH BLOG CARNIVAL DAY SEVEN.I have to say that of all of the topics chosen for this blog carnival, this one will be the most difficult one for me to write. This post will reveal things about my life that sometimes I would rather left un-shared. And this post will probably make some people upset or at least stir up disagreement. When I was a child, Christmas to me meant about what it means to most other children of low-medium income families. I was always excited about the presents,... Continue reading ...

WIVES OF FAITH 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BLOG CARNIVAL DAY SIX. I will say that a few days ago I had no idea what I was going to write for this topic, but thankfully when you are married to a husband like mine, memories are always making themselves!! I've had a lot of fun this Christmas season buying gifts and working on surprise projects for Russ. He has also had fun teasing me about his surprise gift. Being a one-income and very closely-involved-with-eachother household, this fun has had to be sh... Continue reading ...

WIVES OF FAITH 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BLOG CARNIVAL DAY 4.(Disclaimer: To be completely honest, this post is going to be about the 2nd best gift I've ever received. The truly best gift I ever received I will divulge completely in my post on the 21st entitled "What the First Christmas Means To Me.") But, aside from that, bar none, the story I'm about to share with you is one of my fondest Christmas memories ever. If you didn't already know, I am a musician by trade, songwriter by imagination, and ... Continue reading ...
The best Christmas gift I ever gave (as told by Russ)

My wife knows that I am writing this blog, but as I am typing she doesn't know what I'm writing. She did tell me there's some kind of contest or something on wives of faith and that she couldn't really figure out what is the best gift she ever gave. To me its obvious. I guess I am "cheating" since I am writing this and not her, and I guess its supposed to be written until the 14th of December, but since I don't really care if she wins I have no problem in cheating. I just want to say this... Continue reading ...

WIVES OF FAITH 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BLOG CARNIVAL....DAY 2.My favorite recipes for Christmas have got to be almond spritz cookies and buckeyes (also known as "peanut butter bonbons.") As those are very popular Christmas foods and the recipes are readily available, I've chosen to post two lesser-known recipes that I really like.
SOFT SUGAR
COOKIES (I got this one off of cooks.com and it turned out WONDERFUL!!)
1 cup sugar 1 cup butter
1 teaspoon
vanilla
1/2 teaspoon
almond extract

WIVES OF FAITH 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BLOG CARNIVAL....DAY 1.My favorite Christmas song is........"On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me....!!!!" (Lol SOMEONE had to say it right?!?!)
Anyone who has known me closely knows that when I say that a song
is “my favorite,” most likely an hour later the identical words
will come out of my mouth in regards to another. I love music, and I
have numerous "favorite" songs.
When it comes to Christmas songs, I have favorites in dif... Continue reading ...
Why I sometimes call it "Micmiss"

It all started out with my brother and art class (a very long
story that happened wayy back years ago and nobody can really remember how it got started)...and how everyone would say "mic" all the time. It was always mic this and mic that, like for instance, when they
would say McDonalds, they would really emphasize the "Mc" part. Then when they started listening to Christmas music in class of course it because MICmiss.
My family picked this up because Kurt brought home everything from art c... Continue reading ...
The Wives Who Wait (A Christmas Poem)

The Wives Who Wait
Twas the night before Christmas
And there all alone
I saw a young woman
Who sat by the phone
For what was she waiting
On this holiday night
Where were the stockings
Christmas tree, lights?
I saw one little tear
As it rolled down her face
And she curled up in a blanket
Then looked round the place
Something was missing
Someone not here
In her face I saw sadness
Did I also see fear?
I paused and I wondered
What could it be?
That would cause a young woman
To look so lonely... Continue reading ...

I'm thankful for him... Russ and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We took a very short trip down to visit his family in North Carolina. We spent Thanksgiving Day with "the family" doing the normal Thanksgiving activities like eating yummy food, exchanging a few gifts (because we won't be there at Christmastime), watching football, and doing crossword puzzles with Grandma and Uncle Gavin. On Friday we went to a huge craft fair in town and did some more Christmas shopping. In the evening all the... Continue reading ...

Where do I begin? In the last 3 days I've gone from absolutely loving today, to absolutely hating it.
Let me explain...
On Thursday, I went to HEB to grab some groceries really quick for dinner. It was like paradise! Balloons, roses, chocolate, strawberries, and hearts were EVERYWHERE!!! I instantly became a pile of melty mess on the grocery store floor. I picked myself up, grabbed a box of four luscious chocolate-covered strawberries (shocked later at the register to find out that they cost $4... Continue reading ...

After a long and frustrating day of delayed and changed flights, I finally made it up to Chicago!! It's already been a relaxing and fun time. I was glad to be able to have a nice Christmas dinner with my family. I got to spend a little bit of time with my brother Kurt, and we did all of his presents last night. (He had to head back to Indiana today...) There's a BUNCH of snow here, and it's calling me to go out and play...so bye! Continue reading ...

I'm up late, again! Making websites can be so much fun. I spent Thanksgiving with Russell's family in North Carolina. It was a quick trip that I wish could have lasted longer, but my full-time job kept me from taking any additional time off of work. It was great to make my "debut" into the Donaldson family, getting to meet a few aunts and uncles, and spend some good quality time with Russell's parents and brother. I'll be spending Christmas here at home, which is sad, but I'm trying to stay re... Continue reading ...
